Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in signing Reece Oxford, according to Football Insider.
Jonathan Woodgate’s side are in a rich vein of form which has seen them rise well clear of the relegation zone and impress in their FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur recently.
The season started poorly for Middlesbrough as they looked to transition from Tony Pulis’ more direct style of football towards a style of play that has seen Woodgate win admirers for being patient with despite poor results.
One major issue that he has had to overcome is the serious injury crisis that saw a large portion of his first-team squad ruled out for a handful of games. However, Boro have come out of the other side of this very well and now sit 16th after a run of five wins and two draws in their last eight games in the League.
Woodgate acted fast to bring in Manchester City duo Patrick Roberts and Lukas Nmecha on-loan and is now keen on youngster Reece Oxford who is currently in Germany with Augsburg, Football Insider are reporting.
The England-youth international has struggled for regular playing time in the Bundesliga, having made just eight appearances apiece over the last two seasons, and could be keen for a move back to England with the promise of more playing time in the Championship at the Riverside.
Can you remember Boro’s last 12 No.10s?
This could be another smart signing for Woodgate who has settled into the job well after a very sticky teething period and is looking up the table for the rest of the season based on their recent form.
They only reservation could be that Boro’s defence could do with more experience, given that Dani Ayala is the only seasoned Championship centre-back that Woodgate can choose at the moment.
That being said, Oxford is clearly a talented player and held in very high regard, so bringing him on-loan can only improve Boro’s very faint play-off hopes.
