Tony Pulis is set to go head to head with Brendan Rodgers for the signature of French defender Harold Moukoudi, according to the Scottish Sun.
The 20-year old is currently plying his trade at Le Harve, but is a £5m target for the Scottish giants, with Boro also looking to secure the youngster’s signature. The 6ft 3in centre back has represented France from U16 to U20 level and is rated as an exciting prospect in French football.
The Ligue 2 club expect to sell Moukoudi before Friday’s deadline, with Middlesbrough also in the frame. Any deal would have to be a loan with a view to buy, given that the deadline for permanent deals has already expired.
Boro have signed Aden Flint in the summer, but sold Ben Gibson to Burnley and need a new centre back to increase their defensive depth. The Sun report states that Sevilla, West Ham and Burnley were all linked with the defender earlier this summer.
Moukoudi certainly sounds to be an impressive prospect, just 20-years old and already linked with some very big clubs. When the likes of Celtic are interested, it must be tough to compete, although now they cannot offer Champions League football they are perhaps a less attractive prospect.
Tony Pulis will have to work hard and pay decent money to get his man, but he could be a significant coup if he opts to move to the Riverside.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the youngster is clearly going to move.
