Middlesbrough have been dealt a blow in their loan pursuit of Huddersfield Town winger Rajiv van La Parra.

Terriers boss David Wagner as denied the reports linking the player with a move to the Riverside, according to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

Wagner has insisted that the 26-year-old will not be leaving the Premier League side amidst interest from Middlesbrough having missed out on Yannick Bolasie, who joined Aston Villa last week.

The loan window closes on Friday for EFL clubs looking for to complete temporary deals ahead of the January transfer window.

And with a week to go, and Boro dealt a blow in their hopes of snapping up the former Netherlands U21 international, Huddersfield’s boss told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner: "Listen, I don't like to be disrespectful, but Rajiv plays in the Premier League.

"I can't see that he is keen to play in the Championship, so this is why I do not really understand the rumours and the questions because usually, a player likes to play on the highest level.

"For us, the window is closed, even if it isn't in terms of outgoings!

We have a group together which is excites, which is young and very talented, hungry and greedy, which can grow, progress and improve.”

The winger made his first appearance of the season last Saturday, starting in the goalless draw against Cardiff City.

The Verdict

This is a blow to Tony Pulis and Middlesbrough.

Despite their unbeaten start to the new season, having missed out on several targets to replace Adama Traore, the club have had no luck in luring anyone from their wanted list to the Riverside.

Jed Wallace and Yannick Bolasie were both targets with the former staying at Millwall after a bid was rejected and the latter moving to Championship rivals Aston Villa.

With the fresh news on the van La Parra update, it is another significant blow to Boro’s hopes of replacing the talismanic winger.

If they fail to add, however, would it be too much of a blow? As mentioned, Boro are unbeaten and sit second in the Championship on goal difference.

It remains to be seen if they can sustain their excellent run of form, but at present, they don’t seem to be missing Traore too much despite not having a replacement signed up.
