Grimsby Town attacker Rumarn Burrell is the subject of a transfer bid from Championship side Middlesbrough, it has been reported.

The 18-year-old attacker made his senior debut for Grimsby in a 2-0 defeat to Stevenage at the start of April, and went on to make three more appearances for the Mariners before the end of the season.

Burrell was one of three players to be offered a professional contract by Grimsby last month, but it now appears that the League Two are to face competition from the higher divisions as they look to secure his future.

According to BBC Humberside reporter Matt Dean on Twitter, a BBC source has claimed that Middlesbrough have made a bid for the striker, in a deal that could be worth £100,000 with potential add ons.

Middlesbrough themselves are still looking for a new manager after the decision was taken last week not to extend Tony Pulis' contract at the club, following a seventh place finish in the Championship this season.

The verdict

This could soon leave Burrell with a difficult decision to make.

The fee may well be a difficult one for Grimsby to turn down, and 'Boro would be able to increase that offer easily if they wish to.

Burrell may struggle for many first team opportunities at The Riverside Stadium, something which he is just starting to get at Grimsby, so he may have to chose between senior football now, or waiting for the chance to play at a higher level in a few seasons time.

At just 18-years-old, that will not be an easy choice to make.
