Middlesbrough steal in ahead of West Brom & Burnley to wrap up important player agreement

Middlesbrough have put speculation surrounding Duncan Watmore’s future to bed by securing him on a new long-term deal at the Riverside Stadium.
Watmore has impressed at Boro since Neil Warnock offered him a short-term opportunity on Teesside.
The 26-year-old winger has scored five goals and registered an assist in eight appearances for Boro, proving to be a key part of Warnock’s squad as they push the top-six in the Championship.
However, that fine form from the former Sunderland winger brought interest as his short-term agreement with Boro ran down. Keith Downie linked both West Brom and Burnley in the Premier League.
That speculation has been addressed now, though, with Boro confirming that Watmore has signed up until the summer of 2023.
He’s penned a two-and-a-half year deal on Teesside.

Warnock’s side currently sit seventh in the Championship table and find themselves flirting with a place in the play-offs.

With Watmore’s form and Premier League interest, it is quite clear that there will have been a little bit of worry in the Boro camp. So, to get this over the line in early January is great.
