Tavernier featured this season in the Carabao Cup and clearly impressed Garry Monk. It saw him earn a spot with the first-team not long after and he notched his first senior goal last month as Boro beat local rivals Sunderland 1-0.

Even though he has been left out of the squad for matches in recent weeks, he has still delighted those involved with the team due to his performances this season.

And, the youngster took to twitter this afternoon to share a positive message to the fans after landing his new deal.

Boro travel to Millwall tomorrow as they look to close the gap on the top six. Despite their big spending in the summer, Garry Monk’s men are five points away from the play-offs.

The Verdict

Marcus Tavernier is clearly buzzing with his new deal and he should be. The teenager has thoroughly deserved it for the performances he has made.

Boro spent a significant amount in the summer, yet he has proven to the manager that he deserves to play at times which shows his quality.

He will have to be patient this year and he needs to carry on doing what he has done as it’s serving him well so far in his short career.
