England U-21s defeated Scotland U-21s 3-1 on Friday night in what was an extra special night for Dael Fry.

The young Middlesbrough centre-back was making only his second appearance at that level for his country and it came at the Riverside in front of a crowd in excess of 20,000.

Winning capped off the night perfectly for Fry, who revealed his delight at representing his country to the Gazette Live.

For England, I just want to keep getting picked, it's unbelievable playing for your country, there's nothing better.”

The 20-year old added that he will never take his position in the setup for granted.

You've just to keep performing well and remember why you're here and remember what got you here.”

Fry has featured for all England age groups since U-17 level and was a part of the U-20 squad that secured the World Cup this summer.

He has also been a regular for his home town club, playing nine games for Boro so far this season and doing very well on the whole, alongside fellow academy graduate Ben Gibson.

The Verdict

Dael Fry has had a real breakthrough year this season, with regular playing time for Middlesbrough and recognition at England U-21 level.

Playing and winning in front of his home crowd on Friday will have been a great feeling and also left the youngsters in a good position in their group.

Fry spoke with a great attitude that will also please fans, given that he mentioned how he still needs to keep on working and how he loves playing for England.
