It’s been a bit of a difficult start to life back in the Championship for Middlesbrough who many had penned as the favourites for promotion this season.
Of course, coming down from the Premier League is always followed by a significant adjustment period and that was added to at Boro with the likes of Garry Monk coming in as the new manager.
There’s been plenty, then, for the club to adapt to in a short amount of time – meaning results have been slightly hampered – but key man Ben Gibson thinks it won’t be long before things start to click on Teesside.
Indeed, speaking to the club’s website he was both honest and bold with his comments as he reflected on the start to the year and looked ahead to the future.
The centre-half said:
“The five games so far, even though we have won two, we wanted and expected to have more points.
“I think the break has been a good thing for us as we’re learning and it gives us chance to iron out a few issues.
“We know there’s a lot of work to do behind the scenes to make it click and I have no doubt that will happen.”
Certainly, then, Gibson is expecting things to turn around before too long and fans will certainly be hoping that that is exactly what comes to pass with them spending some good money in the summer window this year.
Time, though, will ultimately tell if Gibson and his team-mates can get it together and start reeling off wins this season.
Boro have all the tools at the moment to get things going and really work up a head of steam.
Yes, their start to the season has not been superb but they are still well in touch with the play-off places and once things click – as Gibson referred too – only the very best in the division will be able to keep them from getting promoted.
