Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough have announced the permanent signing of Real Madrid goalkeeper Tomas Mejias according to the Hartlepool Mail.
The 25-year old Spanish shot stopper was on loan at Aitor Karanka’s side last season but was only able to make one appearance due to a hand injury being suffered on his club debut against Sheffield Wednesday.
It is yet unknown as to what the fee for the goalkeeper is but it is being reported in by Spanish media that Real Madrid will have a first option clause for the player.
Mejias’ permanent signing casts doubt over the future of England U21 goalkeeper Jason Steele who fell out of favour with Karanka and his management.
It is thought that Steele is to leave the club whilst Greek goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos will stay on at the Northern side.
