Middlesbrough should put their faith in this 24-year-old and start him next season

Following their relegation to the Championship, Middlesbrough have seen a mass exodus of goalkeepers.

Brad Guzan had already agreed a deal to move to the MLS, Victor Valdes has been allowed to terminate his contract and Dimi Konstantopoulos has been released.

However, Middlesbrough do not necessarily have to dive in and splash the cash on a new goalkeeper – they have a ready made Championship quality ‘keeper in their ranks already.

Connor Ripley has patiently been biding his time at Boro but it seems like now could be the perfect opportunity to blood him into the first team.

The 24-year-old has only ever played three senior matches for Middlesbrough since graduating from their academy.

Boro have sent the promising stopper out on various loans to the likes of Oxford United, Bradford City, Ostersund, Motherwell and most recently Oldham Athletic.

Ripley spent last season on loan at Oldham Athletic and his performances were phenomenal.

Considering Oldham narrowly escaped relegation, Ripley somehow managed to keep the most clean sheets in the entire division.

Time and time again, the young goalkeeper would keep the Latics in the game and the Oldham fans will have to thank him for helping keep them afloat.

Connor Ripley was also named as the goalkeeper in the official EFL League One Team of the Season – a remarkable achievement given the fact that he was playing for a struggling side.

The former England under-20 international is surely ready to step up to the Championship and prove to Middlesbrough why he should be their first choice stopper in years to come.

Boro fans – would you like to see Ripley given his chance next year? Let us know below…
