With Garry Monk recently taking upon the managerial role at Middlesbrough, following their relegation back down to England's second tier, Monk must try and decide early who is transfer targets are, so he can attempt to re-build Boro's team cohesion going into the new season.

One key area in which Boro struggled to obtain last campaign, was a regular and consistent midfield unit, has previous boss Aitor Karanka regularly switched between the likes of Marten De Roon, Adam Forshaw, Adam Clayton, Stewart Downing and Gaston Ramirez, in the middle of the park, Monk will certainly have to find a regular midfield which he can rely on week in, week out.

Additionally, with key members of the midfield such as Adama Traore, Gaston Ramirez and Marten De Roon, likely to be searching for a move back up to the Premier League, Monk may have to recruit some midfielders that are Championship quality.

Welsh midfielder, Joe Ledley, who is valued at £2.98m on Transfermarkt, has recently been released by Crystal Palace, would be a fantastic fit into Boro's midfield.

The central midfielder's Premier League and International experience would add a sense of solidarity to Middlesbrough's side, giving them a solid leader to work and build their team around.

Ledley is well-known for his capability to control the midfield and lead the team from the defence, which would not only help out Monk's defence maintain in shape and strong, but Ledley also is able to create chances through his remarkable vision and passing technique.

With, the 30-year-old currently without a contract, he will be eager to re-sign with a club and start preparing for the upcoming season, and with Boro more than likely selling some of their current players, their wage bill will clear space for a Ledley move.

Regardless of the circumstances, if Monk was able to capture the Welsh international, their chances of regaining Premiership status would increase highly due to his quality on the pitch.
