Championship side Middlesbrough are set to return for Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes in January, according to the Northern Echo.

Boro made an effort to sign the Scotland international over the summer, their highest offer totalling £13 million. Negotiations broke down in the end despite Rhodes handing in a hand written transfer request.

Especially given Rudy Gestede's departure towards Aston Villa, Rhodes was told he was staying at Blackburn no matter what.

Aitor Karanka is now back in for his man, together with Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, who are looking to add goals to their promotion bids.

Rhodes has scored 82 goals in 155 appearances for the Rovers, and has been eyed up by many a Premier League club looking for goals, and given his record in the Championship he would probably score goals if someone took him there.

Blackburn are looking to spend this January after having their transfer embargo lifted earlier this month, and the sale of Rhodes could help fund that.
