Middlesbrough are set to pay £14m to sign Britt Assombalonga from Nottingham Forest, outbidding Premier League duo, Burnley and Watford, reports the Sun.

Assombalonga had been identified as Garry Monk’s number one striking target this summer, and the Boro boss looks set to get his man, after outbidding two top-flight clubs.

Burnley had an £8m bid rejected by Forest earlier this summer, and the Teessiders are set to pay £6m more to secure Assombalonga’s service – whilst paying the 24-year-old an astonishing £60k-a-week.

Forest appeared reluctant to sell Assombalonga this summer, but they are set to receive almost three times as much as they paid for the striker back in 2014.

Assombalonga arrived at the City Ground for around £5.5m in the summer of 2014, and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the Sky Bet Championship’s most prolific strikers.

The former Peterborough man has scored 30 Championship goals in just 65 appearances for Forest, including 14 during the 2016/17 campaign.

Forest struggled in the Championship last year, and it was Assombalonga’s brace on the final day of the season that helped Mark Warburton’s side to a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town, which confirmed the Reds would be playing Championship football again next year.
