Middlesbrough are set to hand midfielder Ravel Morrison another chance to reignite his career, a report from The Sun has claimed.

Morrison joined Sheffield United on a one-year deal last summer following his departure from Italian outfit Lazio, but has so far struggled to make an impact at Bramall Lane.

The former Manchester United youth player has made just four appearances in all competitions for the Blades, and manager Chris Wilder is said to be keen to offload the 26-year-old before the January transfer window closes on Friday night.

That is something that appears to have caught the attention of Middlesbrough, with the latest reports claiming that 'Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate is interested in a move for Morrison, as he looks to strengthen his squad despite the tight budgetary restrictions he is apparently working under.

It is thought that Morrison is set to agree to a deal that will see him move to the Riverside Stadium until the end of the season, with 'Boro keen to get him to rediscover the promise he showed during his early days at Old Trafford.

As things stand, Middlesbrough are currently 17th in the Championship standings, 12 points off the play-offs and nine clear of the relegation zone.

The Verdict

This would be a risky move from Middlesbrough.

There can be no doubting Morrison's ability and potential, something he has shown on a number of occasions earlier in his career.

However, the questions over his attitude do seem to be wide-ranging, and that is a distraction Woodgate could well do without were they to arise again during his time at the Riverside Stadium.

Even so, with the injury recently suffered by Manchester City loanee Patrick Roberts leaving them somewhat short on options in midfield, this may well be a chance that Middlesbrough have to take.
