Middlesbrough set to monitor free-agent market with one position remaining a priority

Middlesbrough are set to monitor the free-agent market with them still open to bolstering their options in the left-back position following the end of the summer transfer window, according to Teesside Live.

Boro had an eventful final day of the transfer window with Neil Warnock managing to bring in two players that he wanted and also sanctioning the departure of Sam Morsy.

Both Andraz Sporar and James Lea Siliki both arrived at the Riverside Stadium to bolster the squad and they will provide Warnock with a lot more options in the coming weeks and months.

However, it is believed that despite being open to adding another forward on the final day of the window, Boro were unable to bring in another striker on top of Sporar who could have provided even more competition in the final third.

Teesside Live also report that Middlesbrough were aiming to try and find a new left-back to add to the squad to try and provide some competition for places with Bola.

It is believed that a few options were explored but ultimately none of those came off.

The report adds that Middlesbrough will now monitor the free-agents market as they assess whether there is anyone available that could help fill that void in their squad in the left-back area.

The verdict

This is not something that Middlesbrough have not done before with them having brought in Duncan Watmore on a free transfer part-way through last season and after the summer window had come to a close.

It would therefore not be a major shock to see Warnock’s side go into the free-agent market to sign a new left-back should an option come up that can fit in well with the rest of the squad and provide some quality competition for Bola.

The Championship season in a lengthy one and there is a long time now between the January transfer window with the hectic festive period also coming up before that.

At the moment, Middlesbrough are going to have to hope that Bola is able to avoid any major injury issues until the winter window at least. That situation though would be eased if they were able to find the right free-agent to bring into their squad in the next few weeks.
