Middlesbrough are close to signing Billericay Town forward Toyosi Olusanya, with the non league club's manager confirming the news to The Northern Echo.

Reports recently surfaced that Boro had made an approach for the 23-year-old forward player and it appears that he could now be set to complete a move to the Riverside Stadium.

Olusanya has been with the National League South outfit since July of last year and is now set for a monumental jump up the divisions as he closes in on a transfer to the Sky Bet Championship.

Speaking recently on the situation, Billericay boss Kevin Watson confirmed that the move was due to take place:

"Middlesbrough came in with an approach and how can you stand in a lads way when a Championship club comes in for you.

"He goes with our best wishes. Obviously it's a real blow to us.

"Hopefully he can make a real impact up there."

The attacker started his career with AFC Wimbledon before leaving the Dons in 2017 after scoring one goal in his only game for the first team and has since gone on to turn out for the likes of Walton Casuals, Fleet Town and Gosport Borough in the non league circuit.

The Verdict

This is a very interesting move from Boro's point of view as they will be bringing in a player who has little in the way of Football League experience.

Olusanya has worked hard to bounce back from being let go by AFC Wimbledon and now has a chance to make a real name for himself in the Championship.

It would be fair to imagine that he won't be a regular starter initially at the Riverside Stadium, so perhaps a loan move to another Football League side is in the pipeline.

All in all though, this is a big move for not only the player, but also Billericay, who clearly wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
