Middlesbrough and Bristol City will be locked in talks today over a possible deal for Famara Diedhiou.
Diedhiou has entered the final six months of his contract with Bristol City, with speculation surrounding his future throughout the entirety of the January transfer window.
Today is Deadline Day and with Britt Assombalonga looking set to leave the Riverside Stadium and, coincidently, head to Bristol City, Neil Warnock’s interest in Diedhiou looks set to intensify.
As per the Northern Echo, Boro’s key focus today is going to be on Diedhiou and getting that deal over the line for Warnock.
A £500k bid has been suggested for the striker, who has scored eight goals across all competitions for the Robins this season and has impressed under Dean Holden.
However, it remains to be seen if Boro can tempt Bristol City into parting with Diedhiou, despite the fact they look set to land Boro captain, Assombalonga.
Quiz: Did each of these 18 ex-Middlesbrough players ever score a goal at the Riverside Stadium?
Diedhiou has scored six of his eight goals in the Championship this season, including a match-winning brace against Huddersfield Town just last week.
In total, he’s scored 49 goals for the Robins in 151 appearances.
This is going to be an important deal for Middlesbrough to get over the line, particularly given the fact that they look set to move out Assombalonga.
Diedhiou would be an ideal replacement at the Riverside Stadium too, offering a physical presence and other traits that really do suit Neil Warnock.
Time is still on Boro’s side, but they need to work hard with the Ashton Gate club to get any deal done.
