Middlesbrough are ready to push through a £7m deal to sign George Saville from Millwall, as Tony Pulis looks to finalise his summer transfer business.

The loan transfer window will close this afternoon, with Boro looking to beat the deadline to bring Saville to the North East in a multi-million pound deal.

According to the Mirror, Boro are ready to push through a deal for Saville that will be worth a reported £7m.

Saville would link up with Boro on loan until January, with the Teesside outfit then making that deal permanent when the January transfer window opens.

Millwall only moved to sign Saville permanently a year ago, paying £350k for the midfielder’s service.

However, the ex-Chelsea and Wolves man was in impressive form last season at The Den, helping Neil Harris’ side stage a late push for the Championship’s play-offs.

In 44 Championship appearances during the 2017/18 campaign, the midfielder scored 10 goals.

So far this season, Saville has featured in four of Millwall’s five Championship fixtures, including 90 minutes of the 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough on the opening day of the season.

The Verdict

Boro now face a race against time today to get this deal over the line.

Saville would be a good addition to Pulis’ squad, with his form last season exceptional for Millwall.

The fee may seem hefty when you consider what Millwall paid, but Saville has improved so much under Harris, developing into a quality Championship midfielder.

It’s easy to see why Pulis wants the midfielder on board, with the player’s attributes suiting Boro’s style of play.
