Middlesbrough secured a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

The first half was a scrappy contest but it was the Blues who took the lead through former Boro boy Lukas Jutkiewicz who headed home from close range.

Jonathan Woodgate's side had some half chances and found a breakthrough as Ashley Fletcher smartly converted from close range after some good work from Marvin Johnson.

Birmingham City thought that they had a later winner but play was stopped for an earlier foul on Marcus Tavernier - sparking ugly scenes in the technical area.

Here’s how we rated the Teessiders.

Aynsley Pears – 7

Made a couple of decent saves but little that he could do about Lukas Jutkiewicz’s header.

Djed Spence – 7

Showed good intent but failed to cause his usual problems down the right. Looked tired but still put in some good challenges.

Jonny Howson – 7

Had a good game in defence, again. Led by example, swept up play well and broke out of defence to move the team forward.

Dael Fry – 6

Caught out a few times with balls over the top before being forced off in the first half with an injury.

Paddy McNair – 7

A decent display as he made some key headers and looked to play a quarter back-type role. Missed a penalty but had a decent game all round.

Marvin Johnson – 6

Poor marking allowed the Blues in for the opener, but made up for it with some fine work to set up Ashley Fletcher's equaliser.

Lewis Wing – 6

Pressed well but a little bit careless with his passing. Did, however, look likely to unlock the door with his vision from midfield.

George Saville – 5

Battled well in midfield but struggled to influence the game. Taken off with 20 minutes left.

Patrick Roberts – 7

Showcased some real quality on the ball as his tricky play and neat footwork caused problems. Won a penalty in the first half but replaced shortly after as he picked up a knock.

Lukas Nmecha – 6

Had a decent game.

Held up play well, made some excellent recoveries and looked the most likely to find the net for the hosts.

Ashley Fletcher – 6

Struggled to impact the game for long spells but made up for it with a lovely backheel to get Middlesbrough level.

Can you remember these former Middlesbrough strikers? Let's find out!

Marcus Tavernier – 7

Showed good intent as he broke out of midfield. A neat player but struggled to carve out space to operate.

Nathan Wood – 7

Drafted in at the last minute and did well. Made some good interceptions against a physical side.

Rudy Gestede - 6

Almost grabbed an equaliser with his first touch after heading over the bar.
