Middlesbrough player ratings: A look at how Jonathan Woodgate’s side fared against Blackburn Rovers

Middlesbrough battled back to secure a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers.

The first half was an even affair with neither side really getting a grip of the game.

It was the visitors who made the breakthrough in the second half when Lewis Travis linked up well with Adam Armstrong to give Blackburn the lead.

However Middlesbrough battled back and got their reward when Hayden Coulson slotted home after Lewis Wing’s long range effort was parried.

Both sides battled for the winner but neither was able to get the deciding goal.

Here’s how we rated the Middlesbrough team against Blackburn Rovers.

Aynsley Pears – 6

Made of couple of decent interceptions but struggled to command his area at time.

Djed Spence – 6

A decent game down the right. Did give away several careless fouls in silly positions.

Jonny Howson – 7

Had a good game – particularly in the second half as he looked to get Middlesbrough back into the game. Left overrun in the build-up to Blackburn’s goal.

Dael Fry – 7

Had a good game. Made some excellent tackles and was able to break out of defence to move the team forward with success.

Paddy McNair – 6

Another good display. Defensively sound and showed his quality further up the pitch with some good passes.

Marvin Johnson – 8

Arguably Middlesbrough’s best player. Much-improved defensively and caused lots of problems going forward down the left.

Lewis Wing – 6

Made some good long-range passes but a little bit careless on the ball on tight areas. Let fly with an effort from range which led to Hayden Coulson’s equaliser.

Marcus Tavernier – 5

Showed some neat touches but a little bit careless on the ball. Replaced by Britt Assombalonga in the second half.

George Saville – 5

Struggled for consistency in his passing. Not his best game.

Lukas Nmecha – 5

Dropped deep to try and impact the game but struggled to get a hold of the game.

Ashley Fletcher – 6

An effective display as he used his pace and power effectively. Had limited opportunities in front of goal but did everything right.

Can you remember these former Middlesbrough strikers? Let’s find out!

Britt Assombalonga – 5

Rudy Gestede – 5

A physical presence but not on the pitch long enough to make a difference.
