It's been a good week for Cyrus Christie, who played a big part for the Republic of Ireland as they secured a play-off spot in their quest to reach the World Cup.

The Irish had to beat Wales in Cardiff and did so thanks to a James McClean strike. They came under intense pressure at time, but on the whole Darren Randolph had little to do, thanks to the excellent defensive work in front of him.

Christie was a key part of that back four and reckons his quality recent performances have come about since his summer move.

Going to Boro has been like a new lease of life. My time at Derby, at times it was tough and I wasn't enjoying it. The manager has given me some belief, and the confidence to enjoy my football,” he told the Northern Echo.

Christie has been a regular for the Teesside club this season, playing in every game under Garry Monk this season.

The lads are great and my confidence is sky-high. I'm playing well, I'm playing every game and I'm making things happen.”

The Verdict

Despite Boro's indifferent start to the season, Cyrus Christie has played very well. The right-back attacks a lot but has improved defensively in recent months.

You only have to see his performance for Ireland on Monday night to see that. He needed to be a lot more disciplined and rarely got forward, but that's what was needed.

With two key play-off games coming next month, Christie will hope he can maintain this form in time for them.
