Middlesbrough striker, Martin Braithwaite is on the verge of completing a move to Spanish side, Leganes according to reports in Spain via a report from Teeside Live.

The forward wasn't present for Boro's pre-season friendly against Salford United, and Jonathan Woodgate issued an update on rumours linking Braithwaite with a move away from the Riverside.

"Martin is getting linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry. Martin is a good player and he would be a success at this football club.

"Nothing is official yet and I just know he hasn't been well enough to play."

Reports from Spain suggest that any potential deal between Leganes and Middlesbrough could be worth a fee in the region of £6m.

Braithwaite has been with the club since 2017, when he arrived from Toulouse for a fee believed to be in the region of £9m, so there were high hopes for the striker.

But he's never settled into life in the Championship, and has scored nine goals in 40 appearances across a two-year-spell with Middlesbrough.

So a move elsewhere looked as though it was always on the cards before the new season started, and it seems as though it's only a matter of time before his exit is confirmed.

Middlesbrough supporters will be hoping that Woodgate is given the funds to strengthen his squad, as they look to win promotion back into the Premier League.

Boro kick their 2019/2020 league campaign off with a potentially tricky fixture against newly-promoted Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

The Verdict:

This is the best move for both parties.

Braithwaite evidently isn't in Woodgate's plans for the immediate future, and I think Middlesbrough are making the right decision in moving him on permanently.

To get £6m for him is impressive business as well, as he's struggled to find his best form for the majority of his time with the club in recent years.
