Middlesbrough suffered a disappointing loss on their return to the Championship, as they fell to defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers in the ‘Big Spenders Derby’ at Molineux.

Garry Monk opted for a narrow formation, with a diamond in the middle, and at times it appeared his side lacked a little width as they chased an equaliser in the second half.

With Martin Braithwaite, Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher all starting for the Teessiders, the importance of getting the ball into the box for the astute finishers cannot be understated, and Monk must address this issue in the coming weeks with a distinct lack of wideman in his set up.

However, this issue looks set to be resolved, with Boro closing in on the loan signing of Liverpool starlet, Sheyi Ojo.

The 20-year-old has been at the heart of an epic tug of war between multiple sides this summer, but it appears Monk’s men are close to winning the battle for the pacey winger.

Ojo linked up with the Liverpool academy in 2011 from MK Dons, and has made 8 Premier league appearances since making his debut for the Champions League hopefuls.

Spending last season at Wolves, Ojo knows the division well, and is already acclimatised to the demands and expectations of performing in this extremely competitive league.

Middlesbrough will be a step up from the Wolves side Ojo was a part of last season, and competing for promotion will be the perfect opportunity for the player to gain much needed experience in competing at the top of the league.

Ojo is extremely agile with devastating acceleration, and if he can improve on his goalscoring output, he could become one of the top young wide men in the country.

Boro’s strikers will be rubbing their hands with the thought of Ojo laying on the assists, and Boro’s team goalscoring output will certainly increase with the youngster in the squad.

Is Ojo the right man to lay the goals on at the Riverside?
