It’s been a steady if unspectacular start to life in the Championship for Middlesbrough with them putting in some good performances but also slipping up where they shouldn’t on occasion.
Of course, there’s been an adaptation period to get through after relegation but that should be over now and Garry Monk’s men will need to kick-on once the international break is over.
Boro head to Barnsley when the Championship resumes, then, and after they drew 2-2 with Brentford last time out, we think that the Riverside Stadium outfit needs to be a bit more attack minded in terms of line-up.
For that reason, then, we’d take Jonny Howson out of the team from the draw with the Bees and bring in Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker to operate in behind the strikers.
Valued by transfermarkt at £4.95m, Baker is a very exciting young talent and has shown this season already he knows where the goal is from midfield.
Indeed, he’s scored more goals this season than any of Boro’s other midfielders and with that attacking edge still something that the side needs to work on, he’d be ideal away from home as they look to break down Barnsley.
We’ve seen the likes of Aston Villa turn their form around in being more bold with some of their team selections in recent games and now it could be time for Garry Monk to do the same as Boro look to get themselves up the league.
