The January transfer window is in full flow and for Middlesbrough it's been a busy month so far.

Patrick Roberts and Lukas Nkecha arrived at the club on loan before Marcus Browne confirmed his loan move to Oxford United on Thursday afternoon.

Several other players have been linked with a move away including goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

The experienced goalkeeper is reportedly on the cusp of agreeing a move to West Ham United, meaning that the Teessiders could be short of options between the sticks.

While it remains to be seen whether a replacement will be signed, reports have suggested that the Teessiders are already eyeing up a replacement.

According to Swiss publication Tagblatt, Middlesbrough have made an offer for FC St. Gallen goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and after signing up with a new agent, is reportedly keen on leaving the Swiss side.

The club's sporting director, Alian Sutter, has reportedly said that speculation regarding Stojanovic's future has unsettled the club and that he'd be looking to get his future sorted as soon as possible.

The verdict

The January transfer window brings plenty of speculation, but the timing of this is far from coincidental.

Middlesbrough will be keeping tabs on goalkeepers as they prepare for Darren Randolph to leave the club and Stojanovic certainly fits the profile of what they're looking for.

It remains to be seen whether there's any truth to this link, but don't be surprised to see the Teessiders move for a goalkeeper either this month or in the summer.
