Sky Bet Championship outfit Middlesbrough are set to miss out on bringing Patrick Bamford back to the club as Crystal Palace agree a loan deal, according to the Daily Mail
Karanka, who is good friends with Chelsea boss Mourinho, was hoping to persuade Bamford to return for a second loan spell at the club. Bamford had a very successful 2014/15 season with his 17 league goals helping Middlesbrough to reach the play-off final.
But now it would appear Bamford will finally get a chance to prove himself in the Premier League. Despite having ambitions to play for the Chelsea first team, Bamford was left out of Mourinho’s pre-season plans effectively ruling out the chances of the 21-year-old appearing for the club this term.
Bamford, who won the Championship player of the year, is set to join Alan Pardew’s side on a season-long loan after appearing to have beaten a number of other Premier League clubs to his signature.
Crystal Palace, who finished 10th last year, will look to improve on that position this year following the signing of Yohan Cabaye for a club record fee of £13m.
Bamford has bags of potential and a full season of regular football in the Premier League will help further the youngster’s development, but this deal will somewhat leave a bitter taste in the mouths of many Boro supporters.
