Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton has revealed that he is confident that the North-East club can maintain their good form in the Sky Bet Championship.
However, he is keen to point out that no one is getting carried away as the club enter the top-two for the first time this season.
Clayton has helped Middlesbrough win all of their last four games and has become an integral member of an improving squad. Beating Brentford 3-1 at the Riverside yesterday was just another piece of Boro’s puzzle as they aim to deliver on their status as early league favourites.
Aitor Karanka’s side have only lost one game so far this season and Clayton has argued that the club are applying the consistency that cannot be matched by most other Sky Bet Championship sides.
They find themselves in second place and five points behind top of the table Brighton, yet Clayton remains firm in keeping his head out of the clouds.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “It’s been a good start to the season if you take away the Bristol result.
“It’s a good start and we’re second in the league so let’s just keep plugging on and see where we can go.
“We’re nowhere near getting carried away. We know it’s a very long season and that results will come and go.
“So we’ve just got to be as consistent as we can, get the points where we can and hopefully that’ll be enough.”
The charismatic midfielder was close to opening his account for the season against Brentford but narrowly missed out after good defensive work from Brentford.
When asked about the chance and his lack of goals so far this season, he added: “It was a good tackle from the lad to be fair.
“I read him well and thought I would just tap it in but it’ll come. I’m not worried about that at all.
“It’s not my job to be getting goals but the odd one would be nice. As long as we keep winning games I won’t be concerned about that.”
Middlesbrough have certainly had a good start to the season and Clayton is hopeful that the club can push on a maintain their place in the top two of the Sky Bet Championship.
Wins are evidently more important than goals for the 26-year-old midfielder, but Middlesbrough fans would like to see him finding the net in the near future.
Whether or not Middlesbrough will continue their good form remains to be seen, but they certainly have a winning formula at the moment and the club will be keenly looking to maintain that.
The next test for the club is a game away from home at Nottingham Forest this Saturday.
