Tony Pulis felt his team did well to come back from being behind twice.

Patrick Bamford scored a 96th minute equaliser to grab a point against the Tractor Boys with the match finishing 2-2. This draw means that Boro play Aston Villa rather than Fulham in the play-offs, so they have an easier opponent based on the league standings.

Boro did largely dominate proceedings against Ipswich, but they weren't clinical enough which led to them being 2-1 down going into added time.

This is what Pulis had to say about the match, according to Middlesbrough's official site: "If we hadn’t taken anything out of the game I would have been devastated."

"We showed great resilience coming from 1-0 down and it was a push on Ben (Gibson) and the kid has got round him and scored and the second goal is a poor decision from Ben, it’s a penalty."

"We had to show good character and we never stopped and in the last couple of minutes we had three unbelievable chances to score."

The Verdict

This team certainly reflects the traditional values that are associated with teams that Pulis has managed previously with the sheer unwillingness to accept defeat being one of them.

Losing this game mattered little in the long run, but the team was still determined to avoid defeat, regardless, and Pulis will certainly be impressed with the character shown because Boro will have to utilise this during the pay-offs if they want to achieve promotion straight back to the Premier League.

However, he will be worried about how they were unable to make their dominance count against Ipswich because they will have to convert their chances in the play-offs.
