Republic of Ireland secured a memorable win in Wales tonight to keep their chances of reaching the World Cup alive.

Anything other than a win wouldn't do and Ireland took all three points thanks to James McClean.

After the West Brom man's strike, it was a complete rearguard action to keep the ball away from keeper Darren Randolph.

Today the Middlesbrough man took to Twitter to reveal his delight at the huge win for Ireland and shared a link to a video showing a key save he made last night.

When the game was 0-0 he was forced into action to push over an excellent header from Wales' Hal Robson-Kanu. The ex-West Ham man displayed great reflexes and it was an important stop.

With Ireland needing a win, going behind would've presented the team with a mammoth task, however, McClean would hit the winner not long after that.

The Verdict

You could see what it meant to the Irish players afterwards and playing in the World Cup will be a dream for all of them.

Randolph deserves huge credit for the save and so do the Irish defence, because after the goal the keeper had nothing of serious note to do.

With the play-offs set for next month, the Boro keeper will surely be needed if Ireland are to take the final step.
