Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Jordan Hugill, with the powerful striker joining the club on a season-long loan from West Ham United.

The Teesside outfit announced on their website that they had signed the 26-year-old, who is returning to where he was born.

And, the former Preston man revealed on Twitter just how pleased he was to secure a move to his hometown side, who will be expected to compete for promotion:

His arrival is much-needed for Tony Pulis after a window that has seen the club lose several key attacking players.

Adama Traore has left for Wolves, with Patrick Bamford departing for Leeds United.

Therefore, goals are needed and Hugill could be the man to deliver after showing his qualities in the Championship for Preston over the years.

That saw him earn a move to West Ham, but the striker failed to make a positive impression in the top-flight and has been moved on after just six months.

The Verdict

This is a very good signing for Boro and you can see that it means a lot to Hugill, who is obviously pleased to be returning to the North East.

With many clubs interested in the player, that pull could have been decisive in attracting Hugill to the club.

Now, he will need to deliver on the pitch, as he has done in the Championship before, ensuring he becomes a favourite with the fans as Boro try to win promotion.
