When Middlesbrough completed the signing of Rajiv van La Parra ahead of the January window, it looked like a good bit of business for all parties.

Firstly, the player was desperate to move having failed to feature much at Huddersfield this season, so getting game time was a priority for the Dutchman.

As well as that, he seemed the exact type of player that Tony Pulis was crying out for.

The Teesside outfit haven't really replaced Adama Traore who left in the summer and the team have lacked that pace and spark in the final third as a result.

So, it seemed as though van La Parra was the ideal fit for Boro but it's fair to say the transfer hasn't worked out at all.

The 27-year-old was once again an unused substitute on the weekend as Pulis' side were held to a 0-0 draw at Wigan and the fact he didn't look to use the loanee must be concerning for the player.

In total, he has made just three Championship appearances since signing for Boro and he hasn't started a game.

Whether it's a question of his attitude or ability, it's clear the ex-Wolves man needs to step things up and make an impression on Pulis in training.

The change of formation hasn't helped van La Parra but he should still be good enough to influence a side that aren't known for scoring goals and creating chances.

It's around three months since the winger arrived at the Riverside and he will surely be concerned at how things have gone - although he does still have time to make it work.
