Crewe Alexandra have announced the deadline day loan signing of Middlesbrough forward Stephen Walker.
The 19-year-old has joined the League Two side until the end of the season, bolstering David Artell’s side before they take on Walsall at the weekend.
Walker has made eight appearances for Boro across all competitions this term, including one in the EFL Cup against Crewe earlier this season.
The 19-year-old was part of the MK Dons side that won promotion from League Two last season, and Crewe fans will be hoping the striker can help their side maintain a place in the top three.
On his new addition, David Artell told the club’s media channels that: “Stephen has come here to get in the team, create and score goals and get us in the top three, he has to earn his place and warrant his place.
“Stephen had offers from League One clubs and I know that because that has come from more than one source but he was adamant that he wanted to come here,” continued Artell. “He was impressed with the way we played up there in the Carabao Cup and we are delighted to have him.”
Walker scored an impressive 20 goals in 37 appearances for Boro’s under-18s side and will be hoping to hit the ground running at his new club.
Crewe could potentially move up to second in the League Two table with a win over Walsall at the weekend.
Walker is clearly hotly rated up in Teesside and has featured seven times in the Championship so far for Jonathan Woodgate’s men.
This loan move will allow the 19-year-old to stake a claim for regular first team and to continue his development in a promotion chasing League Two side.
The 19-year-old brings in promotion experience, and although only featuring seven times for MK Dons last term, he will understand what it takes to be part of a promotion winning side.
Crewe are the joint highest scorers in the division, and this signing will only increase their threat in front of goal.
