When Middlesbrough signed Marvin Johnson in the summer from Oxford United, many were eager to see what he was going to do.

A talented winger with plenty of ability and potential to grow, the move to Middlesbrough looked like a perfect step in his career to really start realising his talent.

However, wind forward to the present and we see a pretty different picture with game time becoming increasingly scarce for the player and Tony Pulis apparently willing to let him go.

Indeed, as per Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas on Twitter, it looks as though the winger is free to leave and that his former side Oxford United are interested in bringing him back to their club:

Johnson, of course, was excellent for the U's when he was with them and that form duly attracted the likes of Middlesbrough to sign him.

It doesn't always work out, though, and if he goes back to his former side he'll be eager to prove he's still got the talent he showed in 2016/17.

The Verdict

A lot of players at Boro will probably end up having this happen to them under Pulis.

Once he knows who he wants the rest usually are moved on pretty quickly and Johnson just needs to try and knuckle down if and when he leaves.
