Hull City are closing in on a deal to bring Middlesbrough's Ashley Fletcher to the club on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year old, who was a big-money signing for the Teesside outfit 12 months ago, has struggled since making the move to Boro.

He scored just one goal in his first few months at the club under Garry Monk and was sent out on loan to Sunderland in January.

His move to the Black Cats didn't work out either, with the club suffering relegation and Fletcher scoring just twice in 16 games.

Therefore, despite featuring from the bench in four of the five Championship games this season, it's no surprise to see Tony Pulis is prepared to let the striker move.

And, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke, it's Hull City who will land the player.

Nigel Adkins has been desperate to add to his squad this summer and the first five games won't have changed those thoughts.

Hull have picked up just five points so far, scoring five goals.

The Verdict

This is a good move for all parties. Firstly, it's clear that Pulis is not a big fan of Fletcher so he was unlikely to play at the Riverside this season, certainly not regularly.

After a tough year last season, the youngster needs games so he will surely relish the chance to be a key player for a Championship club.

As for Hull, they are weak up top and if Adkins can get Fletcher to rediscover the form that saw Boro spend £6.5m on him then he could be a great signing.
