Middlesbrough have opened talks with Wolves over a move for winger Ryan Giles, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Having come through the academy with Wolves, Giles has yet to make him league debut for the Premier League club.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in the Championship, and impressed with nine assists in 21 league games for Cardiff in the first half of the season.

A spell with Blackburn during the second half of the campaign proved less successful however, with the winger managing just one assist in 11 outings.

Now though, it seems as though Giles could once again be back in the second-tier for the 2022/23 campaign.

According to this latest update, Middlesbrough have opened talks with Wolves about taking Giles on loan for next season, with the 22-year-old not expected to be a regular at Molineux.

It is thought that Chris Wilder intends to use Giles in a left wing-back role at The Riverside Stadium, having employed a 3-5-2 formation throughout much of his time in charge of Middlesbrough so far.

The Verdict

It feels hard to know just how this one might work out for Middlesbrough next season.

If they are to get the same sort of return from Giles as Cardiff did last season, then this would certainly be one worth pursuing for 'Boro.

However, the struggles he endured with Blackburn throughout the second half of the campaign, could make this a bit more of a risk for Middlesbrough, since there is no guarantee about what he will be able to do.

Even so, Wilder has the managerial ability to get the best out of players, meaning this could be one worth considering given we know what he can produce, and a likely lack of game time at Wolves means this deal could work for Giles as well.
