Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis is keen on signing Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham.

According to the Sunday Mirror, print edition, Sunday 16th December 2018, the Boro manager has highlighted Wickham as a key January target as he looks to get his side's promotion bid back on track.

Wickham is firmly out of favour at Selhurst Park despite the Eagles being desperate for goals, and with the club looking at making a move for Jermain Defoe, Wickham might well fancy a move into the Championship once again.

The big striker is no stranger to the second tier, having been successful in spells with Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United in the past, and he would no doubt see the challenge of playing for a club like Middlesbrough something he could take on.

Injuries have robbed Wickham of the chance of fulfilling his potential, and still only 25-years-old, he will feel he has plenty of time and opportunity to finally get his career going.

Middlesbrough have seen their charge for promotion falter in recent weeks and they were once again beaten yesterday as QPR took the spoils at Loftus Road.

The Verdict

Wickham would be a good solid signing for most Championship clubs, so it's easy to see why Pulis wants the big striker.

He's been unlucky in fairness in his career, but he knows where the net is, and at Championship level he is a proven commodity.
