Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough are eyeing up a surprise swoop for former winger Adama Traore.

The tricky speedster only made the move from Boro to Wolves in the summer for a fee in the region of £20m, but has struggled to become a regular in Nuno Santo's first XI as the Molineux club have adapted well to life in the top flight.

And now, according to TeamTalk, Boro have been in contact with Wolves about bringing Traore back to the Riverside on a deal in January.

Traore has managed only two Premier League starts since making the switch to the Midlands and is thought to be growing ever frustrated with his opportunities at the club.

Boro themselves are looking for an injection of talent into the ranks after seeing their own march towards promotion halted in recent weeks with a series of poor results, including a home hammering at the hands of Aston Villa which highlighted their need for new players further.

Traore would no doubt consider a move back to the club he was adored at last term, where his marauding displays down the wing and exciting tricks got fans out of their seats on a regular basis.

The Verdict

What a huge coup this would be for the club if Boro could seal a return for Traore.

Selling a player for £20m only to then get him back midway through the next season would be a shrewd move by the club, and he would only aid their promotion bid.

Any team in the Championship would take Traore, and Boro will be desperate to see the move completed.
