Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to sign winger Sheraldo Becker on a free transfer, according to reports from Football Insider.

The North East club are still on the lookout for a new manager having let go of Tony Pulis at the end of the season, but this seemingly isn't stopping them from preparing for next season already.

Becker enjoyed an impressive campaign with Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag last term, scoring eight goals and producing 11 assists for the Dutch club.

But the Dutch winger is now searching for a new club upon the expiry of his contract in Holland, with Middlesbrough, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday among those linked with his signature on a free transfer, as per reports from the Sunday Mirror (19/05, page 70).

According to Football Insider, though, Boro look to be the favourites to win the race for the 24-year-old, and negotiations between the club and the player are believed to be at an advanced stage.

Middlesbrough lacked pace in their attack last season, and their fans will be hoping that Becker can add some flair to the side if he signs on at the Riverside.

The Verdict

I think it would be a real coup for Middlesbrough if they were to sign Becker, especially on a free transfer.

He's contributed to plenty of goals in the Eredivisie, and looks like the player that Boro have been missing over the last year.

They have missed the pace and the power displayed by Adama Traore since he left for Wolves, and Becker could be the perfect replacement for him.
