Reading defender Chris Gunter is a summer transfer target for Middlesbrough, according to a report by The Mirror.

Middlesbrough are aiming to bolster their squad this summer after suffering relegation to the Championship and Gunter is on their radar.

New manager Garry Monk is keen to put his personal stamp on this squad after making the switch from Leeds United to the Riverside.

With full-back Antonio Barragan expected to leave, Boro will be in the market for a new right-back this summer.

Chris Gunter has been lined up as a possibility given his vast experience in the Championship.

The 79-cap Wales international has played well over 200 games for Reading since joining in 2012.

Prior to his move to the Madejski Stadium, Gunter played over 150 games for Nottingham Forest and had previously played a handful of games for Cardiff City as a youngster.

The 27-year-old also played a few games for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the end of the last decade.

Chris Gunter was an ever-present in the league for Reading last season, racking up 46 league games and the three play-off games as the Royals fell narrowly short of winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

He appeals to Boro as he is in the prime of his career, has plenty of experience at Championship and international level, and is used to playing plenty of games.
