Middlesbrough join the race for highly-rated Chelsea midfielder

Sky Bet Championship leaders Middlesbrough are looking to bring Chelsea winger Christian Atsu in on loan, according to Football Made In Ghana.

Boro have developed a successful link between themselves and the Premier League giants in recent years, and although that was partly due to Aitor Karanka’s relationship with now departed Jose Mourinho, the link is seemingly still in place between the duo.

The Teessiders have seen considerable success from players they have loaned from Stamford Bridge, most notably Patrick Bamford, who was the club’s top goal scorer last season.

Karanka is now hoping to use the club’s contacts further as he seeks a move for the Ghanaian, after his season-long loan spell at Bournemouth was cut short this month.

Although the Teessiders have been going strong in the league, Karanka will surely be keen to bolster his ranks, and with the departures of three wingers already this month, he may be looking to add some depth there.

Atsu has also attracted interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray and Spanish side Levante, but Boro will be hoping to use their link with former Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon and sign the 24-year-old.

Middlesbrough are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship as Aitor Karanka prepares his side for long trip to struggling Bristol City on Saturday.
