Middlesbrough want to bring in Blackpool's Marc Bola to the club with the left-back said to be the top target for Jonathan Woodgate as he looks to strengthen that position.

Bringing in new full-backs has been a priority for the new boss, however he has had to be patient with backup keeper Tomas Mejias the only new recruit this summer so far.

However, they are expected to be very busy in the final weeks of the window and Football Insider have revealed that Bola is the man that they want to come in at left-back.

Despite that, a move may not be straightforward, with Sun reporter Alan Nixon stating earlier in the window that Brentford were very keen on bringing the 21-year-old to Griffin Park. The same journalist has also stated that the Bees have seen a bid of £750,000 turned down for Bola.

The former Arsenal youngster has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the third tier after his performances for Blackpool last season. He played 35 games as the team managed to record a top-half finish.

The Verdict

This would be a very good signing for Boro as even though George Friend is still a good performer at this level, they need youthful competition.

In Bola, they would also be getting a player who could make the stop his own for the net decade or so.

Woodgate is trying to build a new style of play at the club and Bola's attacking instincts make him the perfect arrival.

Now, it's down to the club to agree a fee with Boro and to ensure they get in ahead of Brentford for the player who is in-demand.
