Middlesbrough might well be fighting for their lives in the Sky Bet Championship this season, but their recent history has seen them rub shoulders with some of the big boys in the Premier League.
And, today has seen the club serve a timely reminder to Arsenal, who are celebrating the 16-year anniversary of their ‘Invincible’ season in the Premier League.
As we know, the Gunners went 38 games unbeaten on their way to the title in 2003/04, with 4-0 and 4-1 victories over Boro in the Premier League (Arsenal also knocked Boro out of the FA Cup).

However, in the League Cup it was a different story, with Boro meeting Arsenal in the semi-finals of the competition.
After winning 1-0 at Highbury, Steve McClaren’s side brought the Gunners back to the Riverside and won 2-1, securing a passage through to the League Cup final, which they eventually won.
And, with Arsenal moving to celebrate their significant milestone today, Boro have reminded them of their League Cup triumph, with a GIF involving goalscorer, Juninho:

Arsenal’s feat in the Premier League was magnificent and when you consider they reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and League Cup, it tells you just how successful they were that season.
However, that makes it that little bit more special that Boro won the League Cup after overcoming the Gunners in the semi-finals, with McClaren’s side a special bunch in their own right.
It’s great to see the club still living off that.
