Middlesbrough are interested in signing Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich Town this summer.

According to TWTD.co.uk, Tony Pulis is looking to take the forward to the Riverside Stadium this summer, in a bid to bolster his strikeforce ahead of the new season.

Waghorn has only been at Portman Road 12 months, but enjoyed a magnificent year in the Sky Bet Championship, proving to be the division’s most prolific forward.

The 28-year-old impressed in his 44 Championship appearances for the Tractor Boys, returning 16 goals and a further 11 assists, which left him involved in more goals than any other player in the division.

Waghorn only agreed a two-year contract with Ipswich last summer, which will expire at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.

Pulis led Boro to fifth in the Championship last season, but failed to guide his side to promotion via the play-offs.

Attention at the Riverside Stadium has quickly turned to recruitment, with Pulis not hanging round in the transfer window.

Paddy McNair and Aden Flint have both been added to Boro’s squad ahead of the new season, with that duo arriving from Sunderland and Bristol City respectively.

Attention has now reportedly turned to Waghorn.

The Verdict

Paul Hurst will be desperate to keep Waghorn on board next season, but interest in the forward is hardly a surprise.

Waghorn was superb last season, proving to be a real menace in the Championship.

His record was outstanding and it is easy to see why Boro want to bring him on board.
