Championship side Middlesbrough are interested in a move for striker Lucas Boye from Italian side Torino, Greek outlet SDNA have reported.

Boye spent last season on loan with AEK Athens, scoring six goals in 36 appearances in all competitions, helping the side from the Greek capital to a third-place finish in the country's top flight.

According to the latest reports, AEK are keen to bring Boye back to Athens, although they face competition from Middlesbrough, who are also interested in recruiting the Argentine.

It is thought that the Championship side will be able to meet Torino's demands for the 23-year-old, with the Serie A side keen to ensure any departure is a permanent one, due to the fact that Boye is entering the final 12 months of his contract in Italy.

Having joined Torino from River Plate in 2016, Boye has made 47 appearances and scored three goals in all competitions for the Italian outfit, and spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan in Spain with Celta Vigo, prior to his temporary move to Greece last season.

The Verdict

I could see this being a good signing for Middlesbrough.

Under Tony Pulis, 'Boro struggled in attack last season, which arguably cost them a place in the play-offs, so adding a fresh attacking impetus to their side - as they have already started to do with the signing of Marcus Browne from West Ham - could give them a big boost going into next season.

Boye is someone who could further add to that, and you feel his top tier experience could be useful as 'Boro look to take themselves closer to a return to the Premier League.

Given they are reportedly capable of meeting Torino's demands for Boye, you would imagine this is a deal they will be keen to get done sooner rather than later, with time running out until the start of the season and the close of the transfer window.
