Middlesbrough hitman v prolific Bristol City forward – Which one is better?

Patrick Bamford and Bobby Reid have helped their sides get to the edge of the play-offs.

The upcoming clash between Middlesbrough and Bristol City is huge because they are seventh and eight respectively, so a win in this game would go along way to deciding who finishes in the play-offs especially with Millwall and Sheffield United playing each other as well.

Both sides have spent large amounts of the season in the play-offs, but recent charges up the table by Fulham and Millwall have destabilised that with a lot of shot-term fluctuations happening since that due to the close proximity between a significant amount of teams in terms of points.

Bamford struggled initially for Boro, but has improved since Tony Pulis came in with seven of his goals coming since then. Reid has been relatively consistent throughout the season which is why he is the second highest goalscorer in the league with 18 goals.

From the graphic, it is clear that Reid has a lot more impact on his team in the attacking areas aside from just his key contributions. He averages 1.2 key passes per game as well as 1.4 dribbles while also having a higher pass success percentage than Bamford. Therefore, he is taking more risks, but is still better at ball retention than his opponent.

This reflects their positions because Reid can play as a second striker, so he is used to linking up play in the final third while Bamford is more of a traditional striker with his priority being to get in dangerous areas and finish chances.

Middlesbrough’s change of managers means that Bamford hasn’t had the same stability as Reid. However, Reid is the better of the two because he has a more all-round skillset while also contributing more goals per game.
