Middlesbrough have been hit with a double injury blow ahead of their late challenge for a play-off spot, which couldn't have come at a worse time.

Daniel Ayala was stretchered off in the win over Hull City, whilst Dael Fry picked up an injury in training this week, which is expected to rule him out of action for the foreseeable future.

Middlesbrough are currently sat a point outside of the play-off places and will be hoping they can force their way back into the top six in the near future.

Boro boss, Tony Pulis revealed the extent of Fry's injury in a press conference (quotes sourced from Middlesbrough's official website).

"Dael has torn his hamstring and it's a bad one," Pulis said.

"It'll be 12 weeks I think. I don't think he'll play for us again this season, or go away with England in the summer.

Pulis also admitted his frustration at Fry's injury, as he's been hugely impressive for Boro in a season that has been a rollercoaster of a ride so far.

"It's a big blow, because he's been growing in confidence and he's played in all sorts of positions. We've been delighted with his progress, I thought he was our best player last weekend.

"To lose them all within ten days is really disappointing.

Pulis' side are next in action when they take on Stoke City on Good Friday, in a game where they will be in desperate need of picking up three points to aid their bid to finish inside the top six before the season reaches a conclusion.

The Verdict:

This has come at the worst possible time.

Fry and Ayala have both been important players for Tony Pulis' side this season, and they'll leave a sizeable void in the Middlesbrough defence.

Pulis will have to make do with his other options though, as they battle to break back into the top six.
