Middlesbrough handed home draw in League Cup quarter-finals

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup was made following Wednesday night’s fourth round ties, with three Football League sides still in the competition.

Middlesbrough – winners of the tournament in 2004 – earned their place in the last eight with a dramatic 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Manchester United and have been handed a home tie against Everton, who needed spot kicks themselves when they saw off Norwich City on Tuesday evening.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City were given away draws; Wednesday’s reward for their convincing 3-0 win over Arsenal is a trip to Stoke City, who ended Chelsea’s defence of the League Cup, while Hull travel to current Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The quarter-final line-up is completed by the all-top flight affair between Southampton and Liverpool, with all ties due to be played in the week commencing 30 November.
