Middlesbrough go toe-to-toe with Premier League outfit in the race to sign Liverpool man

Middlesbrough are set to rival AFC Bournemouth in the race to sign Ryan Kent from Liverpool this summer, with Garry Monk keen to give the youngster another opportunity in the Sky Bet Championship, reports the Sun.

Kent has made just one senior appearance for Liverpool, and is expected to find himself away from Anfield when the 2017/18 season starts, with the potential of either a loan or permanent move happening this summer.

Bournemouth have been linked with a permanent move for the Liverpool winger, with Eddie Howe’s side lining up a £6m deal for Kent following Boro’s interest.

Kent featured in 44 of Barnsley’s 46 Championship fixtures last season, helping Paul Heckingbottom’s side impress on their return to the second-tier.

The winger’s form has alerted a number of clubs this summer, and despite Bournemouth’s interest, Boro will look to sign Kent this summer – with a loan to the Riverside Stadium more likely than a permanent transfer.

Boro are preparing for a return to the Championship this summer, with Monk looking to bring a fresh approach to the Riverside Stadium, following a disappointing 2016/17 campaign that saw the club slip out of the Premier League.
