Middlesbrough face Premier League battle to land Scottish ace

Sky Bet Championship league leaders Middlesbrough are looking to strengthen in January and have been keeping tabs on Everton’s Scottish international Steven Naismith, according to the Sun.

Aitor Karanka will face stiff competition if he is to land Steven Naismith

Naismith has had limited first team opportunities so far this season, and that has put a host of clubs on alert that they might be able to tempt him away from the Merseyside club.

Middlesbrough are in the race for the Premier League star, but face stiff competition from a host of top-flight clubs, notably Sunderland, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Norwich City, with the latter having had a bid turned down in the summer for the 29-year-old.

Naismith has stated his intent to talk to manager Roberto Martinez about his lack of games, and if no assurances are forth-coming, he could be set to move in January.

It looks as though he will have plenty of suitors to choose from, but whether he would choose the Championship for half a season is debatable.

Boro currently sit top of the Championship after collecting 46 points this season, and if the Naismith deal were to happen, it would certainly bolster their chances of a return to the Premier League

Middlesbrough fans… would like to land Naismith? Do you think he would choose to play in the Championship? Who else would you like to sign in January? Let us know your thoughts and opinions¬†in the comments below!
