Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough are eyeing up Stoke City striker Peter Crouch and Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle as alternatives to Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes, according to the Mirror.

Following a 0-0 draw against newly promoted Preston North End more strikers are on the list for Aitor Karanka, who is beginning to give up on his chase for £14 million rated striker Jordan Rhodes, who nabbed 21 goals last season.

They’ve held initial talks over signing Dwight Gayle, who Palace want £10 million for the Englishman after he joined for £6 million in 2013 from Peterborough, despite being linked with Wolves and Fulham already this year.

Though they feel it’s a long shot to sign Crouch, talks have still been held between the two clubs over a move, despite making 33 appearances last season, scoring eight goals.

Either of these strikers would be fantastic additions to the Boro side and though they’d be expensive outlays, it would add a huge goal threat to their side.

Middlesbrough fans… What do you make of this news? Is Crouch a good signing? Is Gayle a good signing? Are they the ones to replace Bamford? Let us know in the comments below!
